On Tuesday, Forbes reported that tech conglomerates Apple and Facebook plan to cover the costs for their female employees' egg-freezing treatments. These treatments would allow the women to delay motherhood for career advancement.

With an estimated $10,000 plus $500 per year to maintain frozen egg storage, the companies plan to offer up $20,000 for the procedure under their health benefits program for fertility and surrogate​. Facebook implemented the program back in January; Apple will implement it come 2015.

In a Bloomberg Businessweek cover story earlier this year, feminist Emma Rosenblum highlighted the utopia that would spring forth if women chose to freeze their eggs in service of career advancement.

"Imagine a world in which life isn’t dictated by a biological clock," Rosenblum wrote. "If a 25-year-old banks her eggs and, at 35, is up for a huge promotion, she can go for it wholeheartedly without worrying about missing out on having a baby. She can also hold out for the man or woman of her dreams."
