Rams Player: Not Sure if Teammates Really Embracing Michael Sam or Just Being Politically Correct

"Clearly I'm not sure how everyone feels, but from what I can tell so far I think it's a little bit of both, honestly."

Speaking on condition of anonymity to ESPN, a St. Louis Rams player admitted that he was uncertain whether teammates had really embraced Sam’s homosexuality or if they were just being politically correct. The comments came during a discussion of Sam’s newly announced reality show on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Sam’s show on OWN will be based on Sam's tryouts for the St. Louis Rams. The anonymous Rams player told ESPN that he had his doubts about that as well, stating that Sam’s choice to do the reality show “does raise eyebrows” and expressing concern that it might prove to be a “distraction.”

It's an interesting case that he gets to work with Oprah and have his own show, but I think it does raise eyebrows and it may be somewhat of a distraction. But this is our first time dealing with something like this, so we'll have to wait and see how it plays out and how people react.

As for “how people react,” the player told ESPN that he was unsure if his fellow Rams players were truly embracing the first openly gay player in the NFL, or if they were simply responding in the politically correct manner.

Clearly I'm not sure how everyone feels, but from what I can tell so far I think it's a little bit of both, honestly.

So far, Sam’s OWN reality show remains untitled. ESPN reports that sources have explained that the plan is for the show to be broken into six or eight episodes.

While Sam was selected in the seventh round, his jersey was the second most popular of the draft weekend, only Johnny Manziel’s sold more.
