Progressives Put Up Billboard to Mock Kim Davis, Bible

But they're just "Planting Peace"

When Rowan County, Kentucky clerk Kim Davis returned to work on Monday, she was met with a nearby billboard that openly mocked her faith.

Paid for by the progressive organization Planting Peace, the $500 ad campaign attempts to peg the Bible as having outdated marriage practices. Therefore, since marriage no longer involves trading farm animals, Davis should have no problems with same-sex marriage. Of course, proper citation of scripture was not included on the billboard:

In a message from the organization released Friday, the target is clear -- people of faith and their practice of "cherry picking" scripture:

As has been painstakingly observed time and time again, the anti-LGBTQ movement is comprised of a substantial number of zealots who unfailingly refer to their rigid interpretation of religious text to narrowly define “traditional” institutions and values. They pick and choose what they wish to convey as immoral and unacceptable, while seemingly sweeping lines of scripture just a few letters away completely under the rug.

"The intent of the billboard is to expose this narrow interpretation by Davis and others that they use to defend their discrimination against the LGBTQ community," the release continued.

Though there are instances in the Old Testament where a marriage dowry was exchanged between the fathers of the bride and groom as was tradition in that time period, there is no specific reference to "three goats and a cow" as the exact formula. So, at least being consistent in their disdain for selective quoting, Planting Peace's "example" is apparently their attempt to grossly simplify historical generalizations, disguised as authoritative, to make a point.

The organization hopes the billboard sends a message of "love and compassion" to religious zealots who only hold to outdated beliefs of "hate and intolerance." The following message, posted to their website, is not intended for that audience:

You are loved, valued, supported, and beautiful.
There is nothing wrong with you, and we will stand by you.
You are not alone.

Planting peace, love, and compassion, but only for those in agreement.
