In yet another strong defense of defenseless children Wednesday, Pope Francis chided those in society who have marginalized children to the point of seeing them as a mistake.

Speaking to his weekly general audience, the Roman Pontiff continued his ongoing talks about the family, exclaiming before a large crowd that "children are a great blessing God has bestowed on men and women," adding that it is "shameful" when people write them off as a "mistake."

"Please, let’s not unload our faults on children," he said. "Children are never ‘a mistake.'"

To those who say that children living in poverty or ignorance are "mistakes," Pope Francis said that hard circumstances are only "reasons for us to love them even more, with more generosity."

"Every marginalized and abandoned child, who lives by begging on the street for every little thing, without schooling or healthcare, is a cry to God," he said. "Their suffering is the result of a social system, created by adults."

Not content to leave children's issues in rich countries at the wayside, the Holy Father said they suffer from "live dramas that scar their lives heavily due to family crises or inhuman living conditions." Children in those countries suffer from "a culture of exaggerated individual rights" and "are forced to become accustomed to degradation."

"The church places her maternal care at the service of children and their families," he added. "It brings God’s blessing to the parents and children of this world, maternal tenderness, firm reprimand and strong condemnation. Brothers and sisters, think carefully: You don’t mess with the lives of children."

Pope Francis concluded his address by saying "how beautiful" society would be if they adopted the attitude that "no sacrifice on the part of adults would be considered too costly or too great, anything so as to avoid that a child thinks they are a mistake, that they have no value and that they are abandoned to the wounds of life and to the arrogance of men."

In recent months, the Holy Father's language on family issues have become increasingly less permissive, especially towards the modern left's agenda to transform it. He has since labeled willfully childless couples as "selfish" and supported pro-traditional marriage initiatives in countries like Slovakia.
