Poll: Rubio Trounces Jeb Among Republicans

Prefer Rubio by 32-point margin, Rand Paul by 18

For the second time in the last month, a YouGov poll found that Republicans prefer Sen. Marco Rubio (FL) to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush by a wide margin.

Three weeks ago the poll found a 52/25 lead for Rubio among GOP voters. A new YouGove poll has since made clear that that significant margin was no fluke, with Rubio now beating Bush in a head-to-head by 32 points (56/24). Only 15% polled said they were "unsure" and 5% said they would not vote.

The poll found that Bush holds a slight edge over Rubio among Democrats (22/18), but loses out to Rubio by a large gap (24 points) among Independents (38/14):

The poll found that Bush is likewise trailing Rand Paul among Republicans, but by a lesser margin, 48/30. Like Rubio, Paul was favored by Independents (40/19), but was also favored by Democrats (24/19):

YouGov summarizes what it believes to be the takeaways from the poll about Republican priorities for its potential presidential candidate: in short, privileging conviction over political experience:

This campaign is only just beginning, but when asked, Republicans seems to favor those candidates with fewer years on the national political scene, and not those with arguably the most political experience. Rubio and another first term U.S. Senator, Kentucky's Rand Paul, both beat Bush in head to head matchups. However, Paul leads Bush by less: 48% of Republicans in the poll support Paul, 30% favor Bush.

Republicans also want a candidate who doesn’t compromise, something more Democrats accept. Democrats are evenly divided on whether they prefer a candidate who sticks to his or her positions or one who is willing to compromise.
