Remember on Tuesday when Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi agreed to delay leadership votes until late November so the party could reassess its direction after a devastating presidential election? It seemed as though Democrats wanted some fresh meat to help steer the party in a new direction and how that might mean changing the guard of the post she’s held for the last 14 years. Well, it looks as if Pelosi wants to stay.
On Wednesday, Pelosi announced her intention to keep her position and confidently boasted she has the majority of support to ensure her reign continues.
“It is with both humility and confidence that I write to request your support for House Democratic Leader,” Pelosi, 76, said in a letter to her party. “As of this writing, I am pleased to report the support of more than two-thirds of the Caucus.”
Also, the powerful congresswoman doesn’t believe her tenure had anything to do with the failures of the latest race to the White House and has an optimistic outlook:
“In the days since the election, I have been deeply grateful for the insights Members have shared with me. We have all been deeply moved by the stories and concerns of our constituents. They elected us to fight for their jobs, families and futures. We have and we will!”
But there's still the vote. Perhaps there are those that prefer keeping their true feelings private, and another upset is on the horizon. Stay tuned.
