On Friday, the UK's Daily Mail, along with CNN and Yahoo, ran a story with an emotionally charged photograph showing an armed Israeli soldier pinning down a young Palestinian boy with a broken arm. Frantic women surround the soldier, attempting to punch and claw the man off of the frightened child. But new information is providing a much better sense of context for this likely PR disaster for Israel set forth in the narratives by the media.
Pro-Israel blog Israellycool reveals that the boy was being arrested for throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers who were guarding against Palestinian protesters disputing land in the West Bank. Even more, the young girl in the pink Tweety Bird shirt was quickly recognized by Israellycool readers as "Shirley Temper" -- the name they have dubbed this young teen who regularly provokes IDF soldiers in front of cameras to capture just such a moment. This media manipulation by these Palestinians is known as Pallywood, and two of its notable "actors" are Temper and her brother, the boy being arrested. Its directors are the pair's mother and father.
From the blog:
Israellycool readers recognized the biting girl as the Pallywood star “Shirley Temper”, whose exploits I have documented comprehensively on this blog. Exploits which involve deliberately trying to provoke IDF soldiers under the watchful and encouraging eye of her parents, in order to produce great images for propaganda.
And they might have gotten away with it too, had it not been for those meddling yids!
Readers inundated the Daily Mail with links to this blog showing what Shirley Temper and her family have been up to.
Because of this, Israellycool reports that the Daily Mail was forced to change it's lead to reflect the new tone they missed, or perhaps deliberately ignored. CNN is still covering the story with its focus on the aggression of the Israeli soldier, as is Yahoo. Yet, their coverage reveals that Temper, whose real name is A'hed Tamimi, and her brother are being filmed by their own father throughout the harrowing ordeal. Their mother is one of the other women beating the soldier.
Israellycool adds:
I’ll take this as a win. Allowed to go unchecked, this would have been an unmitigated PR disaster for Israel. As it is, I am sure some damage has been done, but not as much as would have been the case had the Daily Mail not been alerted to the Tamimi family’s background in Pallywood productions. Now, Daily Mail readers will see the images, read the article, and might ask “What kind of parents would allow their child – already in a sling – to be placed in harm’s way?”
So thank you dear readers. We really can make a difference.
