BDS In Solidarity with the Intifada

"If you see those infidels, strike their throats…Allahu akbar"

During September and October 2015 there was an escalation in the wave of terror attacks in Israel. The Palestinians are calling this wave of terror an intifada: the Third Intifada or the Al-Quds Intifada. Since the beginning of this wave of terror, there have been over 1,200 attacks against Jews, the overwhelming majority of whom are civilians; 11 Jews have been killed and 285 injured. These terror attacks have been accompanied by incitement in the various Palestinian media and by calls for attacks against Jews in all places and by all means, with special emphasis on the stabbings.

The following are a few examples that illustrate the mood on the social networks of the Palestinian media in recent weeks.

Left: Burning the Israeli and American flags during a march in support of terrorists. Right: March organized by Hamas in Rafah in support of the terrorists and the attacks in Jerusalem (Paltoday, October 18, 2015) [1]

The BDS movement, which calls for boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israel, is defined by those who lead it as a movement based on international law and the principles of human rights. In reference to armed resistance, BDS co-founder Omar Barghouti wrote: “Armed resistance is considered one of the most important forms of direct resistance against military occupation during revolutionary periods. In principle, this is a legitimate option according to international norms, but must be executed responsibly… It must also be subject to international law and ethical principles, and object to deliberate harm to innocents…

Despite these statements, the BDS Movement recently published a notice explicitly expressing support for the “Palestinian Intifada.” The BDS Movement  even organized a campaign for expressing solidarity with the intifada.

The following is a translation of the notice that appeared on the movement’s Facebook page in Arabic.

October 15, 2015: The boycott movement launches a call for solidarity with the intifada of the Palestinian people against the apartheid occupation, on the 16-18 of this month.

A further example of this supportive attitude toward the current wave of terror is evident in an interview by Barghouti to the English language Al-Jazeera television station, on October 20, 2015. Barghouti essentially praised the international support created by the BDS movement and its ilk for the current wave of terror:  “There‘s a major difference this time around – there’s an international solidarity movement, especially the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, that is raising the price of Israel’s crimes, this time around, which was not the case during the first intifada in 1987, for example.

Those who boycott Israel practice economic terror – in support of physical terror.
