O'Reilly Ratings Boosted By Controversy

Fox News host scores big boost

Far from being beaten down by a controversy over his past, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly has seen a big bounce in ratings.

O'Reilly has spent the past two weeks under attack from left-wing outfits such as Mother Jones and Media Matters, both determined to show that the most popular host on cable news has Brian Williams-like problems when it comes to past claims. Mother Jones struck first with allegations that O'Reilly had exaggerated his coverage of the Falklands war in 1982, Media Matters has focused on claims that O'Reilly exaggerated his involvement with the suicide of a close friend of Lee Harvey Oswald.

None of that appears to matter to the audience which is tuning into O'Reilly on Fox while tuning out his competition.

On Tuesday, O'Reilly drew an audience of 3.3 million with 590,000 in the coveted 25-54 demographic. Deadline.com reports that equals a 166% overall increase in audience compared to the same night last year and a 100% increase in the demo.

More worrisome for O'Reilly's competition is that he is leaving them in the dust.

CNN's Anderson Cooper drew a total audience of 530,000, MSNBC's Chris Hayes scored 767,000.

O'Reilly, meanwhile, drew an additional 1.1 million viewers during his 11 p.m. ET rebroadcast furthering the divide between him and his competition.
