Obama: More Women Breadwinners Than Ever Before… Give Them A Raise

"When women succeed, America succeeds."

"When women succeed, America succeeds," President Obama said in his Saturday Weekly Address.

And now that more women are the breadwinners for their families, it's time to give them a raise. "Because that benefits all of us," the president reasoned.

Touting the latest White House jobs numbers -- adding 10.3 million new jobs over 55 months, unemployment below 6% for the first time in six years, and fastest economic growth in the last six months since 2003 -- Obama is, once again, asking Congress to "harness this momentum" and raise the minimum wage "so that everyone who works hard can get ahead."

But especially women:

Women deserve fair pay. Even though it’s 2014, there are women still earning less than men for doing the same work. We don’t have second-class citizens in this country -- we shouldn’t in the workplace, either. So let’s make sure women earn equal pay for equal work, and have a fair shot at success.

The usual suspects were added to the mix: women "deserve" time off for babies, taking care of sick family members, and protection from being fired if they become pregnant. As well as "affordable childcare" for new parents. "So let's start demanding Pre-K for our kids," Obama said.

So let’s do this -- let’s give America a raise.

All of these policies are common sense. All of them are within our reach. We’ve just got to speak up and choose them. Because they’ll build a stronger America for all of us.
