For all their demonization of Wall Street, elites on the Left certainly don’t mind cashing the vilified firms’ checks.
Joseph Curl at The Washington Times reports that Barack Obama is pocketing a nice chunk of change from speaking engagements offered by America’s corporate financial movers and shakers. According to Bloomberg, the former president was paid roughly $400,000 for an appearance before clients of Northern Trust Corp. In addition, he “reminisced about the White House for Carlyle Group LP, one of the world’s biggest private equity firms.” The Democratic idol also spoke to investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald LP during their health-care conference Monday, for which he received another $400,000.
Curl writes: “At his apparent going rate, just those three speaking engagements we know about brought Mr. Obama a $1.2 million haul. He hasn’t even been out of office a year, and the very places he bashed while in office are paying him big bucks to swing by and speak.”
Obama’s blatant hypocrisy about Wall Street is just as predictable as the media’s indifference about covering it as a story. But in a rare exception, The Washington Post pointed out:
Mrs. Clinton made 92 total paid speeches between 2013 and 2015, just after leaving her job as secretary of state, and charged anywhere from $250,000 to $300,000, according to reports. Using the low end of that scale, she pulled down $23 million — much of it from places like Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street financial institutions. If Mr. Obama follows that path, he’ll haul in nearly $37 million before the 2018 midterm elections.
Where is the media outrage? So far, the press isn’t interested. They're too busy decrying Donald Trump’s defense of the American flag, or hurling unfounded accusations of racism against him, or perpetuating conspiracy theories about the President's election collusion with Russia to expose the hypocrisy of their beloved former President Obama. Media bias is a corrosive state of affairs, and if the last year is any indication, we can expect very little Hope and Change.
