Obama Brazenly Disregarded Budget Proposal Requirement for Eight Years

When you hear libs complaining about Trump's budget cuts, remember this.

As President, Donald Trump is legally obligated to submit his proposed budget to Congress for approval between the first week of January and the first week of February. The Budget and Accounting Act, passed in 1921, makes this requirement clear. On Thursday, Trump released a preliminary 2018 budget proposal (which covers only discretionary spending) a couple of weeks late. Naturally, liberals didn't go for Trump's plan. Even if you haven't heard one word of critique, you know the old talking points - the cuts will hurt the poor, women, and children.

But Jeff Reynolds over at Pajama Media points out that Trump satisfying that legal obligation is really step up compared to President Obama's lackluster approach to budgets. Though Trump missed the "first week of February" deadline, Obama sumitted his first budget request in May, giving Congress just five months warning. Reynolds writes:

President Obama blew off his legal obligation to submit a budget proposal by the statutory deadline in seven of his eight years at the helm. Now, I know that strict adherence to the law is not the strong suit of Democrats, but you'd think they'd at least give lip service to holding their guy to some set of standards. Those tardy Obama budget requests were eventually received by Congress—and laughed out of the chamber. In a 414-0 wipeout vote in 2012, for instance, Obama achieved rare bipartisanship, with both parties uniting in opposition to his silly proposals. Two other times the Senate brought Obama's budgetary framework up for a vote—despite his reticence to file it formally—just for the fun of seeing it receive 99 and 98 Nay votes, respectively.

Reynolds also points out that "no other administration in history was so brazen in its disregard for the statutory requirement to submit a budget" and that Obama holds several records:

1. Longest delay in submitting a proposal (98 days)

2. First president to miss the deadline two years in a row

3. First president to miss the deadline in three of his first four years

4. Most times missing the deadline.

The next time you hear liberals complaining about Trump's proposed budget cuts, just remind yourself that they haven't cared about the budget for eight years.
