A University of Missouri professor was recently caught beating a child relative and it comes as no surprise that there won't be protests against him at Mizzou -- a university where some students are still boiling with rage against perceived abuses by administrators in regards to racism and freedom of speech. One reason is because Omar is a Muslim and for progressives, that earns a free pass. Secondly, he didn't do anything "racist" against black students. So, naturally, he's off their radar.
But last week, Police arrested Youssif Omar, 53, in Columbia, Missouri for allegedly beating a teenage female relative because she was not wearing her traditional Muslim hijab. Reports say the incident happened at the young girl's high school, where Omar noticed the missing headscarf and flew into a violent rage, pulling the girl by the hair down a flight of stairs and slapping her in the face before forcing her into his car.
According to the Columbia Daily Tribune, Omar was later arrested and charged with suspicion of felony child abuse. He posted a $4,500 bond and was released. There was no update on the condition of the child and the man has refused to comment.
Omar, a Benghazi native as noted by the New York Daily News, is listed as an assistant professor at Mizzou. More specifically, he is a graduate teaching assistant of Arabic and the manager of the university magazine, Artifacts Journal. Coincidentally, Omar wrote a piece for a recent issue about accepting other cultures and having an open mind. He stated: “It is very hard for some people to be away from their own culture because they find themselves confined to the deep-rooted beliefs and customs they acquired and learned from the communities in which they were born and raised. Such people see themselves as fish taken away from the water."
But, really, there's nothing to see here. So, move along.
Yet the questions remain, and Pamela Geller said it best:
Where are the riots? Where are the firings? Where are the demands for expunging Islamic texts and teachings of misogyny and supremacism?
Anyone?
