Megyn Kelly To Gruber: 'The American People Have Had Their Say'

"We’re no longer interested in you, Mr. Gruber, and 28 Democrats who voted for that health care law just got fired by the American people..."

On The Kelly File Monday, Megyn Kelly and guest Marc Thiessen discussed the “explosive” new video of MIT’s Jonathan Gruber, one of the architects of Obamacare, admitting that Obamacare was written in a “tortured” way to hide its tax implications from the CBO and mask its redistributive cost structure from the “stupidity” of American voters.

“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage,” admitted Gruber to a University of Pennsylvania panel in 2013. “And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically that was really, really critical for the thing to pass.”

After playing the full clip, Kelly invited on Thiessen, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and former speechwriter for George W. Bush.

Kelly: And there you have it. You and I have been talking about this law for over a year, and piece by piece deceptions have been revealed—“misstatements” to be charitable, like, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan.” And now you have one of the critical architects of the entire law, a top adviser to the White House, saying it outright on camera that they had to deceive people because they were too stupid to like what Mr. Gruber thinks they should’ve liked.

Thiessen: They lied to us for our own good, Megyn. They always lie to us for our own good because we’re too stupid to understand.

After highlighting President Obama’s clearly dishonest Obamacare-selling tactics, Thiessen then blasted Gruber for his arrogant condescension, pointing out that he wrote a "comic book" presenting insultingly dumbed-down arguments for the law:

Thiessen: If it takes lying to us to get what they want done, they’re willing to do it. … he actually wrote a comic book to explain Obamacare because of course we’re not smart enough to read chapter books.

To demonstrate just how condescending Gruber's book was, Thiessen highlighted a passage in which it explained the individual mandate as “the spinach we have to eat in order to get the dessert that is fairly priced health insurance. “

Though Kelly said she invited Gruber on to explain himself Monday night, he declined, so Kelly offered him and the Democrats who pushed the law some thoughts:

Kelly: You know what? We’re no longer interested in you, Mr. Gruber, and 28 Democrats who voted for that health care law just got fired by the American people because eventually they realized they had been lied to […] one by one, the misrepresentations have come out and the American people have had their say.
