It is official. Megyn Kelly is leaving Fox News as has been rumored for quite some time. But instead of landing a new job at ABC or CNN as some thought, Kelly will now be the new face at NBC News.
Kelly’s new responsibilities will include anchoring a Sunday night news show and hosting an hour-long daytime program during the week, and she will assume a key role in NBC News’ political programming.
A final number on how much this cost NBC wasn’t made known; however, Fox News offered its star anchor $20 million to stay. NY Times reporter Jim Rutenberg alleged that NBC News chairman Andrew Lack “wooed” Kelly “by offering her a triple role.”
Kelly made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter:
The end of Kelly’s tenure at Fox has been rocky at best. She leaves having accused former chairman and CEO Roger Ailes of sexual harassment. She and Donald Trump had a public beef during the presidential debates which resulted in the now infamous line about Kelly having “blood coming out of her wherever.” Loyal Fox viewers felt Kelly had too many left-leaning tendencies and had lost the conservative edge she once had. However, The Kelly File remained Fox’s second-most watched show after The O’Reilly Factor.
But many reactions reflect a common feeling -- good riddance:
Even a social justice journalist at The New Yorker landed a punch (and one for Melania Trump, too):
