To MSNBC host Melissa Harris Perry race is THE issue she deals with on her show again and again. Being black, the black experience, is central to her work on television and as an academic. She is even the founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Center, an organization dedicated to gender, race and politics.

Yet when she interviewed fake black woman Rachel Dolezal, Harris Perry went from someone that made race a central part of her identity and work to an issue that simply didn't matter.

Questions included queries about her hair and generally didn't dig deep. Instead the interview attempted to help Dolezal push the transracial idea that she is black because she identifies as black.

The move shouldn't be a surprise to anyone that has followed MHP's career which is really about pushing progressive politics through media and academic means.

Past stellar moves by MHP include mocking Mitt Romney and family for having an adopted black grandchild, and saying that children belong to the community rather than their family. She also recently claimed that minimum wage kills workers and earlier this year told a university audience that she hoped Trayvon Martin "whooped the sh*t out of George Zimmerman."
