Matthews Guest Says Beck and Levin's Souls are 'Scary'

Chris Matthews and his guests comment on Glenn Beck and Mark Levin

David Corn of Mother Jones, and Jonathan Capehart of The Washington Post -- both MSNBC contributors -- joined Chris Matthews on Friday's edition of Hardball to talk about the House budget deal.

Matthews played a clip from Thursday's Mark Levin Show, on which Glenn Beck was a guest. The two talked about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell being "two-faced" and Beck even said the Speaker of the House was "worthless." Matthews then told his guests that Sens. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) are only liked by right-wing radio because they allegedly take "orders" from the on-air hosts. When the tingly host turned to Corn and asked if radio listeners will really believe what Beck and Levin say, he responded,

I don't know what Mark Levin and Glenn Beck believe because it's too scary to try to look into their souls.

Corn continued that the budget deal and other issues on Capitol Hill will be dealt with by "Republicans who want to be grown-ups." He then added an "extreme body" of "hard right" voters has taken over the party and has controlled the GOP for the last 14 years. Matthews then implied Beck and Levin didn't like Obama because of his race, saying,

Forget all their ethnic problems with the guy, think of the left wing part... They think he's a left winger! So what do you do? You fight with him continually and say 'no no no' until he's gone?

Matthews directed the last part of his statement toward Capehart, who responded, "yes!"
