On Saturday, Michael Sam made history when he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, making him the first openly gay player in the NFL. Upon hearing the news, Sam and his boyfriend celebrated live on ESPN with a kiss and a slice of cake. Since the moment their lips touch, folks on the left have been cooing like teenage girls for something that would otherwise have been a minor footnote had the kiss been of the "hetero" variety, in other words, boring and routine.

The Huffington Post simply called it "THE KISS" while subtly hinting at an unspoken "OMG!" Slate penned a whole column about the romantic exchange, lamenting that ESPN has since "bowdlerized" the footage by cutting out the kisses from the replays. Salon even went as far to say that "the video of Michael Sam finding out he was drafted will *actually* restore your faith in humanity." On their Facebook page, Mother Jones said it "made them cry."

Michael Sam was drafted to the final round, 249th overall.
