Could Americans actually say the words "Senator Kid Rock" some day? Well, perhaps not technically. His actual name is Robert James Richie, but still, the singer known for songs like "American Badass" may actually run for Senate, having launched a campaign website, kidrockforsenate.com, this week.
“Stay tuned, I will have a major announcement in the near future,” the 46-year-old musician wrote in a message on his Twitter account Wednesday. He also assured his fans this was not a hoax.
Believe it or not, this idea has been floated before in Michigan during the state’s Republican Party convention in February. The seat has been held by Democrat Debbie Stabenow since 2000, who won re-election in 2012 with 58 percent of the vote. Rock’s Senate campaign website features a large photograph of him seated next to a stuffed deer.
“Are you scared?” reads a caption under the photograph.
Kid Rock has been an outspoken Republican for several years now, having endorsed Donald Trump during the 2016 race.
