National Review columnist Jonah Goldberg rightly thinks that the latest New York Times editorial targeting gun owners, Christians, and Republicans is one of the "single dumbest editorials" in the paper's history.
On a Fox News panel, Goldberg found himself at a loss for words as to how the NYT somehow could equate Islamic terrorist Omar Mateen – a registered Democrat and homosexual – to pro-gun Christian conservatives.
"I'm reluctant to say this, but that might be the single dumbest editorial in the history of the New York Times," Goldberg said. "It's like a piñata, you could hit it from any angle and get some reward."
True to his claim, Goldberg showered everyone in candy by eviscerating the "piñata" that was the editorial:
First of all, the guy was a registered Democrat, right? He swore allegiance to ISIS and somehow, it’s the Republican opposition to gay marriage that is somehow associated with this? You know, I know for a fact that a lot of the founders of the Nazi Party were gays. Should we revisit the issue of Nazism based on the fact they were homosexuals? It's ludicrous[.]
Goldberg ultimately concluded the left has shifted to talking about those issues because they're "safe" and what they're used to, rather than radical Islam.
Other members of the panel agreed and went on to lambast CNN anchor Anderson Cooper for having the nerve somehow blame Florida AG Pam Bondi for the terrorist attack in Orlando based on her past support of traditional marriage.
"This is not an American form of homophobia," said Tucker Carlson of Fox & Friends. "This is a Middle Eastern form. So why is it America's fault? What you're see something very recognizable if you have talked to liberals or listened to the President, this is America's fault. No, actually it's not."
