Iranian Actress Boycotting Oscars Because Trump

"Trump's visa ban for Iranians is racist."

Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti, star of the Academy Award-nominated Best Foreign Language film The Salesman, will be boycotting this year's Oscars because Trump's ban on visas from certain countries harboring people known to commit terrorist attacks on Western soil in the name of Islam is "racist."

"In what could mark the start of a worrying trend, just one day after President Donald Trump made good on his promise to curtail immigration from certain Muslim-majority nations, an actress from one of those countries has said that she will boycott the Oscars in protest," reports The Hollywood Reporter

Alidoosti made her announcement to boycott the night of glitz and glam on Twitter:

The film's director Asghar Farhadi, who won the 2012 Oscar for his film A Separation, has not commented on whether he or his male lead, Shahab Hosseini, will be boycotting the ceremony as well.

Alongside Iran on the countries banned from being issued new U.S. visas were Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
