Following a barrage of Bibles being sent to the office of Houston Mayor Annise Parker in response to her controversial subpoenas of five pastors to turn over their sermons, the city of Houston has withdrawn those subpoenas.
Truth Revolt writes, “Parker, the first openly gay mayor of a major U.S. city, caused widespread outrage earlier this month when her office subpoenaed the sermons of five local pastors who were part of a petition to create a referendum vote on the new city transgender non-discrimination ordinance, nicknamed the “bathroom bill” because it in part allows males to use female bathrooms and vice versa.”
"The goal of the subpoenas is to defend against the lawsuit and not to provoke a public debate," Parker said.
But now, the city of Houston is dropping the subpoenas, not because of the illegality or of the blatant disregard to religious liberties, but according to Parker ...
"I didn't do this to satisfy them," Parker said of critics. "I did it because it was not serving Houston."
