The Hillary Clinton campaign has declined an invitation from Fox News to debate with her opponent Bernie Sanders in California.
In a statement from Hillary's campaign communications director Jennifer Palmeri, the Clinton campaign explained that they'd prefer to focus their efforts on Donald Trump:
"We have declined Fox News' invitation to participate in a debate in California. As we have said previously, we plan to compete hard in the remaining primary states, particularly California, while turning our attention to the threat a Donald Trump presidency poses," said Palmieri.
"We believe that Hillary Clinton's time is best spent campaigning and meeting directly with voters across California and preparing for a general election campaign that will ensure the White House remains in Democratic hands," she continued.
Last week, the Sanders campaign accepted the invitation, accusing the Clinton campaign of not holding up their end of the deal from February to stage four more debates.
Sanders expressed disappointment with Clinton's decision:
"I am disappointed but not surprised by Secretary Clinton’s unwillingness to debate before the largest and most important primary in the presidential nominating process."
The Freedom Center is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Therefore we do not endorse political candidates either in primary or general elections. However, as defenders of America’s social contract, we insist that the rules laid down by both parties at the outset of campaigns be respected, and that the results be decided by free elections. We will oppose any attempt to rig the system and deny voters of either party their constitutional right to elect candidates of their choice.
