Fiorina: 'Black Lives Have Been Diminished Under Democratic Policies'

"That's just true."

On Megyn Kelly's top-rated show this week, Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina blasted Democratic policies for having "diminished" the lives of African Americans.

Asked by Kelly if she believes that "black lives matter" or if "all lives matter," Fiorina said “of course all lives matter,” but then turned the discussion to the destructive impact of Democrats' policies on the black community.

FIORINA: First of all, of course all lives matter. Secondly, black lives have been diminished under Democratic policies. I mean, that's just true. African American youth unemployment is up under President Obama. Communities that are struggling with poverty have had more people fall into poverty. The education policies of liberals hurt poor families. We know that. We know that progressive shut down parents’ choices about how to educate their children. … We also know, by the way, that the abortion industry targets African-American communities.

Kelly began the segment by asking Fiorina to comment on the violence that broke out in Ferguson over the weekend on the anniversary of the shooting death of Michael Brown.

Calling it a "dangerous" and "tragic" situation, Fiorina noted that "we now know that the facts surrounding Michael Brown’s death were not as the protesters originally alleged," but she also stressed that there are "real grievances" that still need to be addressed in law enforcement.

After praising law enforcement for responding appropriately to the situation in Ferguson over the last few days, Fiorina pointed to the peaceful and healing response to the racially charged tragedies in Charleston, South Carolina as an inspiring example of how a community can come together and find "resolution."

FIORINA: I would just say to Americans who are looking at this and feeling despair: Remember, as well, the example of South Carolina, a very different situation – where not only did a cop murder, he is now being charged with murder of a young black man – but we also had the terrible [church shooting] tragedy in Charleston and yet that community came together and expressed grievances in a peaceful way, even in a loving way and found a resolution.
