The bait was laid and advertised. During their New Year's Eve coverage, Fox News featured a segment with Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson and his wife Korie, who were spending New Year's Eve in Colorado, sitting down for their first interview since dad Phil was suspended from and then reinstated to their family program on A&E, Duck Dynasty. Fox hosts Bill Hemmer and Elizabeth Hasselbeck gave the couple several chances to address the firestorm surrounding the suspension of his father over comments about homosexuality, but Willie chose not to take the bait, instead adopting a reconciliatory stance.
We're looking forward to getting back to making some funny shows. It's a New Year so we're ready to break in a New Year and start it all over again. We're ready to move on, you know. I think we all learned a lot and we're just ready to move on, and the family's happy, and we're ready to go. I've got to make sure my guys are back there building duck calls.
Asked her thoughts on the suspension by Hasselbeck, Willie's wife Korie took the same tone.
Hey, I'm just glad the family's all together, the best thing about the show is we get to do it as a family. We're all happy, happy, happy.
Going back to the couple right after the ball dropped, Will and Korie shared a New Year's Kiss, which was photo bombed by country music star Luke Bryan, and the couple gave some teases about the upcoming Duck Dynasty season.
Willie ended the interview by promising,
I’m going take better care of my beard this year than last year. More lotions and oils. I need to get back to the beard.
