It's no secret that Saturday Night Live is relentlessly liberal and rabidly anti-President Trump, but one skit in last weekend's episode seemed to take a surprising turn and poke fun at the left for once.
In the skit, guest host Scarlett Johansson plays one of three scientists who are presenting the progress on their pet translator invention to investors. Hooking up Johansson's own dog to the scanner which will translate his thoughts into words, everyone in the room is shocked and appalled to learn that her the dog Max is a Trump fan.
Listing a few things he likes, Max tells the assembled scientists and investors, “I like park and leash, and I like Trump. He’s my man."
Johansson is sure there must be a “translation error” in the device, but Max denies it. “There’s no glitch. Donald Trump is our president. He carried the Electoral College fair and square."
The investors are disgusted, and Johansson horrified that her own pet would like Trump.
“The Dow is up 2700 points since he was elected. What’s not to like?” Max points out.
“Your dog is a monster,” says one investor.
“You’re just a dog,” Johansson insists. “You don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Excuse me, Helen, but yes I do,” Max replied. “It’s that condescending attitude that made me want to vote for Trump in the first place!”
The dog also points out that he doesn't want his owner's tax dollars going to illegals.
"Trump is bad! He's a racist!" Johansson declares.
"What do you know about black people?" Max retorts. "You never brought one into our house once."
“What about his record on women’s rights?” Johansson asks Max. “Don’t you want me to have a choice over my own body?”
“You didn’t afford me a choice when you cut off my balls!” Max fires back.
In the end, Johansson tells Max, "We just have to learn to respect each other's point of view, I guess" -- then places a pink knitted "pussy hat" on Max as she prepares to walk him outside. (For those who remember the January Women's March, the actress Johansson made an appearance and speech in solidarity with the women demanding rights they already have from the "misogynistic" Donald Trump.)
But the fun was short-lived for pleasantly surprised conservative viewers. SNL may have thrown us a tiny bone with that skit, but in the very same episode, Johansson ridiculed Ivanka Trump in a mock commercial for a fragrance called "Complicit."
