As the readers of TruthRevolt know well, most celebrities lean left and are happy to virtue-signal their political position at every opportunity. Some celebs more wisely -- or shrewdly, depending on their motivation -- prefer not to openly alienate half their potential audience by wearing their politics on their sleeve. That's not good enough for Progressives like Amy Zimmerman at The Daily Beast, who insist that apolitical celebs get off the fence and use their star power to help promote Progressivism among their fans.
In "It’s Time for Taylor Swift to Denounce Her Neo-Nazi Admirers," Zimmerman complains that the pop superstar "has scrupulously avoided any sort of political statement. She expresses her 'feminism' through sanitized non-statements like, 'I’m proud to be a woman today, and every day.' Not only did she refuse to endorse a presidential candidate—she wouldn’t even denounce the candidate who was accused of serial sexual assault."
How dare Swift try to maintain political neutrality and focus simply on entertaining people! This will not stand!
Zimmerman declares that, based on an interview with neo-Nazi Andrew Anglin of The Daily Stormer, Swift "is worshipped as an ‘Aryan goddess’ by the white supremacist community," and "now that Nazis and counter-protestors are actually fighting in the streets, there’s no time like the present for Taylor Swift to finally come out as anti-Nazi":
Denouncing neo-Nazis might sound like a low bar or a meaningless declaration. And why should a pop singer have to personally clarify her position on white supremacy? This question would be perfectly valid if we were talking about Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, or any other major female celebrity who hasn’t been heralded in certain dark corners of the internet as an Aryan princess/secret neo-Nazi.
First of all, I realize it's popular today to bash white people, but it's not Taylor Swift's fault that she's white, blonde, and blue-eyed, or that a neo-Nazi and his loser buddies somewhere fantasize about her as the Aryan ideal. This does not mark her as a "secret neo-Nazi," for God's sake, but apparently if you're white and haven't gone public with a denunciation of white supremacism, you're suspect.
Second, Zimmerman actually links Swift to what she calls a past swastika mini-scandal, a fake news incident blown ridiculously out of proportion in which Swift posed for a photograph at a party with someone she didn't even know who was falsely accused of having a swastika on his shirt. It was an absolute tempest in a teacup, but Zimmerman wants to suggest that this further connects Swift to white supremacists.
