Texas Senator Ted Cruz tweeted a message Monday for self-important athletes who felt compelled to protest America's white supremacy by sitting out the national anthem over the weekend:
This was in response to multiple NFL players showing solidarity last weekend with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s ongoing protest of the national anthem.
Miami Dolphins players Arian Foster, Jelani Jenkins, Kenny Stills and Michael Thomas all knelt before their season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.
Like the 49ers management, the Dolphin leadership wimped out as well, supporting the players’ right to protest. Meanwhile the NFL is contemplating fining a pair of players for wearing special shoes respectfully commemorating the 9/11 anniversary.
Candidate Donald Trump had previously weighed in on the controversy by suggesting Kaepernick should leave the U.S. “I think it’s a terrible thing, and, you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him. Let him try; it’s not gonna happen."
By contrast, President Obama said last week that Kaepernick is “exercising his constitutional right to make a statement” like various sports figures before him.
