Clinton’s 'Just for Women' Fundraiser Opened to Men

Not Enough Women Bought Tickets

Hillary Clinton is trying to become the first woman to be elected president, but it looks like she won’t get there with the support of women alone. In the wake of the former First Lady’s declining poll numbers, the Clinton team was forced to open up an exclusive “just for women” fundraiser to men after ticket sales stalled.

The fundraiser was hosted on Monday by Silda Spitzer, along with several other women. Silda is the ex-wife of disgraced former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, who resigned his post in 2008 after it was discovered that he had patronized a prostitution ring. Tickets to the event cost $2,700, but apparently that was too much to ask for a candidate who no longer appears to be a sure thing.

According to the New York Post’s Page Six:

The “Conversation With Hillary Clinton” event at Midtown law firm Akin Gump was originally aiming to attract 125 women. An email invitation seen by Page Six said the event is “just for women.” But by Friday, “They’d only sold 50 tickets, so they threw it open to men,” a source said. “Ticket sales were supposed to close at 10 a.m. Sunday, but the hostesses were working the phones and pushed the deadline till Monday.”

Page Six reports that the event ultimately attracted about 90 attendees, still far short of its goal. Host Silda introduced Clinton as a “tough, authentic leader”—a sentiment apparently not shared by the women of New York.
