President of CBS Entertainment Glenn Geller told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday that diversity is the goal in casting the lead role for a new series in development based on the beloved fictional character Nancy Drew. And by diversity he means not white.

"She is diverse, that is the way she is written," Geller said. "I'd be open to any ethnicity."

Just "not Caucasian," he stressed.

This isn't the first time the iconic high school sleuth will be adapted on the small screen; there was a series produced by ABC in the late '70s and later, a TV movie in 2002. Similarly, in the late 1930s, Nancy Drew was the subject of several Warner Bros. films. The studio released a critically-panned film much later in 2007 starring Emma Roberts. 

The other change besides the character's skin color is her age: she is now solving mysteries in her 30s.

Geller also made similar promises for other shows he has in development:

We have a lot of new series in development, both series targeted to have full African-American or Latino casts but also many leads that are being developed [as diverse]. We're not casting color-blind, we're casting color-conscious.

And keeping with diversity as the new progressive whim of the day in Tinsel Town, Netflix has also announced an all-Latino reboot of the classic 70s/80s CBS sitcom One Day at a Time. Vallerie Bertinelli need not apply.
