Huffington Post, which initially refused to cover Donald Trump on anything but its Entertainment page, grudgingly reports now, on its Media page, that The Donald is good for media business:
There's a reason Donald Trump gets more minutes during almost every debate or can seemingly call into The Late Show or The View whenever he has a racist remark and expect the media to do whatever he likes. According to the head of CBS, the foul-mouthed presidential candidate is "damn good" for the network and the "money's rolling in" thanks to his antics.
Les Moonves, executive chairman and CEO of CBS, said during a speech at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in San Francisco:
I've never seen anything like this, and this going to be a very good year for us. Sorry. It's a terrible thing to say. But, bring it on, Donald. Keep going.
Moonves also noted that an election cycle loaded with "bomb throwing" has kept ad sales this season particularly strong. "It may not be good for America, but it's damn good for CBS," he said.
The New York Times pointed out that other Republican candidates, including Sen. Marco Rubio, have struggled to keep pace with Trump and thus have been forced to ramp up their own mudslinging to grab some of the media attention themselves.
HuffPost reported that Trump's "antics" are working: "CNN and Fox have both broken debate ratings records this election season and Trump's polling numbers are already crushing Mitt Romney's from 2012."
