News reports about the brother of Syed Rizwan Farook, the 28-year-old Islamic terrorist that slaughtered 14 Americans in California Wednesday, say he is a decorated U.S. Navy veteran who served in the war on terror.
Syed Raheel Farook is said to have enlisted in August 2003 and served through August 2007. Buzzfeed reported that he received the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. As The Hill notes, Farook was an information system technician on the USS Enterprise and served in the Surface Warfare Officer School Unit and the Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. It is also noted that he won a Good Conduct Medal as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist.
Raheel did not participate in Wednesday's planned terror attack, only his brother and wife, Tashfeen Malik -- now known to have pledged allegiance to ISIS. Unfortunately with similar names, the picture (above) of the innocent brother was shared as the suspect's photo online through various media outlets, including The Daily Beast, until it was corrected with a DMV photo of the real suspect, Syed Rizwan Farook:
