Bono, U2's frontman and noted humanitarian, appeared on Capital Hill Tuesday to offer what he believes to be the best weapon in defeating ISIS: comedy.
"Don't laugh, but I think comedy should be deployed," he began.
Somehow, Bono sees a similar thread that connects his business with Islamic terror:
Because if you look at national socialism, and Daesh, and ISIL -- this is the same thing. We've seen this before; very vain, they've got all the signs up there. Really, it's show business.
Except when U2 sings to its audience that "some heads are gonna roll tonight," they don't mean it literally.
But Bono's convinced that if we send our best and brightest, not military but comedians, into Syria and Afghanistan, ISIS will realize the error of their ways and turn towards the light:
It's like, you speak violence, you speak their language. But you laugh at them when they're goose-stepping down the street and it takes away their power.
So, I'm suggesting that the Senate send in Amy Schumer, and Chris Rock, and Sascha Baron Cohen. Thank you.
Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) was all ears to Bono's suggestion, telling him it's not the first time she's heard an "expert" suggest comedy as a means to defeat Islamic terrorism.
"Thank you," Bono replied before doubling down: "I'm actually serious."
