Russell Fredrick, a barber in suburban Atlanta, offers a special hair cut to children who are misbehaving. It's called the "Benjamin Button Special" for its resemblance to an old man's haircut, in which the top is shaved but the sides are saved.

Three days per week are set aside at the barbershop for parents to bring in their surly kids and dish out this punishment. And best of all, it's a free service!

Fredrick, the 34-year-old co-owner of A-1 Kutz and father of three, got the idea to offer this special do after he tried the technique on his 12-year-old son with fantastic results. Fredrick told The Washington Post that his son's poor grades suddenly and "dramatically skyrocketed" thanks to this unique and embarrassing disciplinary action.

After Fredrick posted pictures online of a child brought in by his single mother to receive the "Benjamin Button," interest, good and bad, poured in. “There are a few people that are saying it’s emotional abuse," the barber said, "but on average, everyone is applauding the mother that brought the child in — and applauding me as well.”

Fredrick does caution parents to use this as a last resort when nothing else is working, but in this day and age, when punishing children the old-fashioned way is looked down upon, "you have to get creative," he says.

He told the Post:

Parents are at a loss. When you go to discipline kids these days, they can’t necessarily use physical punishment they way parents did in the past, but they have to do something. If you don’t, and your kid ends up doing something crazy, everyone is going to say the problems started at home.
