At the Golden Globes Sunday, Amal Clooney, international human rights lawyer and wife of George Clooney, expressed her solidarity with the victims of the radical Islamist terrorist attacks in France by carrying a Dior clutch bag altered to include a “Je suis Charlie” badge.
Amal explained the significance of the addition to her purse to journalists Sunday, saying it had been "customized in solidarity with the French people, who've gone through a terrible week."
George Clooney, who likewise wore a badge on his tuxedo entering the ceremony, emphasized their message of support for the French people and freedom of expression in his acceptance speech for the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award (video below):
"And just one last thing I would say is just to reiterate what we have all been talking about, today was an extraordinary day,” he said. "There were millions of people that marched not just in Paris but around the world. And they were Christians and Jews and Muslims. There were leaders of countries of all over the world and they didn't march in protest. They marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear. We won't do it. Je suis Charlie.”
Though this weekend's powerful demonstration against terror in Paris included a who's who of high-profile Western leaders, President Obama, Vice President Biden, and Attorney General Holder were conspicuously absent from the historic march.
