WHAS in Kentucky confronted senate candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes regarding her availability for a debate against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in a segment that ran on the station today. Grimes declined to participate in the debate, agreed to by McConnell last week, citing a "long-standing commitment." However, WHAS contacted the university where Grimes was supposed to be committed and found the long-standing committment was to an event that was only organized in the last week.

"The Rhodes College Political Science Department employee who handles RSVPs for Grimes' talk with students on Friday told me that the event was just lined up within the last week."

When confronted, Grimes told WHAS that she looks forward to debating Senator McConnell, and that she's had commitments to the college president for "quite some time." She accuses McConnell of playing games with the dates. But it is Grimes who has backed down from the first agreed upon contest. Time will tell if she's prepared to show up to the next.
