At the end of Tuesday's Politics Nation, Al Sharpton took the opportunity to make fun of Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), former GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain and Republican Governor of Louisiana Bobby Jindal. Sharpton played clips of their State of the Union responses in past years and made snarky comments about each.
Earlier in the program Sharpton thought it showed un-fixable division in the Republican ranks because four people have opted to give a response to President Obama's address Tuesday night. The official Republican response is being given by Rep. Cathy McMorris Rogers (R-WA), who is the number four highest ranking Republican and the highest ranking Republican woman in Congress. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL) will give the GOP's official Spanish language response. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) will tape a response to the State of the Union address that aides will distribute to media outlets and social media sites, some are dubbing Paul's remarks as the "libertarian response." The Tea Party Express is sponsoring Sen. Mike Lee's (R-UT) comments.
Saying those selected had received less an "honor" and more of a "curse" Sharpton almost giddily repeated the clip of Sen. Rubio's water sipping moment from last year. He also brought up Bachmann's mishap of looking at the wrong camera. Pot calling the kettle black considering he frequently messes up while reading his own teleprompter and even confuses cameras on his MSNBC show.
Sharpton's "Rev. Al's Republican Response Tips" were:
1. Do Not Awkwardly Walk Up to the Camera
2. Look Straight at the Camera
3. Deliver a Speech, Not a Pizza
4. Hydrate!
Each point made reminded viewers of mistakes made by Jindal, Bachmann, Cain and Rubio. Sharpton ended the segment saying,
If you listen to these tips you should be okay. Now all you have to do is change all those lousy policies!
