After tweeting and subsequently deleting a blatantly anti-Semitic meme on Wednesday, Al Jazeera apologized and called the post an error, according to Forward.com.

“This is not AJE image but a reply to an old thread that was mistakenly linked,” Al Jazeera English tweeted. “We apologise for the error.”

As Forward.com notes,

The image was originally tweeted on Wednesday to promote a story about climate change. Al Jazeera later deleted the post, but Twitter user Eli Meixler quickly took a screenshot.

The meme is known as the “Happy Merchant,” and depicts a hook-nosed Jew in a yarmulke rubbing his hands together. BuzzFeed has called the character the “internet’s favorite anti-Semitic image.”

Al Jazeera, of course, is the 20-year-old, 24-hour, Arabic-language satellite TV news network based in Qatar. It is passionately anti-American and anti-Israel, and "routinely glorifies Islamist terrorists, anti-Semites, and other fanatical foes of those two nations," according to its extensive profile page here at Discover the Networks, the Horowitz Freedom Center's resource database:

AJ's newscasts and on-air discussions are staged to show its mostly-Muslim viewers a relentlessly visceral, emotion-charged drama in which Jews, Israel, and Americans are almost always cast as villains, infidels, and evil-doers.

Needless to say, Al Jazeera is supportive of such subversive entities as the Muslim Brotherhood and the Democratic Party.
