In an interview with The Daily Caller, Adam Carolla doubled down on the statement he made recently to Salon that the “gay mafia” in Hollywood is stifling comedians’ voices by attempting to exact apologies for remarks they deem offensive, saying, ""You get out there and make a joke about you fill in the blank group — sexuality, sexual proclivities, whatever it is — they’ll come after you."

The extensive interview, which will be released in segments over the next few weeks, touched on Carolla's political positions, his opinion of the current state of Hollywood, and his new book, “President Me: The America That’s in My Head.”

This first release focuses on his opinion on the stifling effect of the so-called "gay mafia" in which he argues that if you make the wrong joke, "they'll come after you":

“What I’m saying is if you are a late night show host and you got a joke about Chaz Bono, keep that one in your pocket,” Carolla said.

“And by the way there are many different groups now — and there always have been,” he continued. “But I’m just saying: You get out there and make a joke about you fill in the blank group — sexuality, sexual proclivities, whatever it is — they’ll come after you. And they can make things very difficult. And at a certain point people just realize it’s more trouble than it’s worth. I’m not going to say that joke ’cause I don’t even want to deal with it.”

“So what it is it is sort of stifling,” he argued.

Carolla's statement echoes remarks by Bill Maher who said after the firing of Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich, "...I think there is a gay mafia. I think if you cross them, you do get whacked."

Another unlikely echo comes from America's most vocal drag queen, RuPaul, who has recently come under fire for using offensive gay terminology (apparently referencing "tranny" and "she-male" too liberally). RuPaul tweeted that the gay community would "eat itself from the inside out" if the Orwellian policing continued.
