Martin Luther King Jr. Addresses Ferguson!

MLK walks out onto stage, to not just cheers but the sounds of explosions and gunshots going off.  Hectic.  His advisor stands on-stage.  He begins to speak.

MLK:  I have a dream today! That a man not be judged by the color of his skin…

He gets cut off by a voice in the crowd.

VOICE: Blow *bleep*  up!

He pauses, a little surprised but continues.

MLK: But by the content of his character…

Voice interrupts again.

VOICE: Kill a cop!

MLK stops and looks to his advisor.

MLK: What did that man just say?

Advisor leans in.

ADVISOR: Uh, he said “Kill a cop,” sir.

MLK: What?!  No, no, no, now who said that?!

VOICE: Start a fire, break some *bleep*

MLK: No. No that’s not what I’m saying at all. Stop that…

The camera finally reveals Barry, white guy hipster, black sympathizer. He is beaming, positively thrilled.

BARRY: Yeeeah! *bleep* ‘da police! Let’s tear this mother down!!

His little crony behind him cups his hand to his mouth, echoing him.

CRONY: *bleep* ‘da poe-liiice yeeahhh yeeeaaaah!

Back to MLK reaction. Pause.  He turns to his advisor.

MLK:  Does that young man know that he’s…

ADVISOR: I don’t think he’s aware, sir.

MLK: Young man… Are you aware that you’re not even …

Back to eager/smiling reaction from Barry.

MLK: That you’re ummm…

Reaction.

MLK:  That you’re white?

His smile fades. Defeated.

BARRY:  Yeah.

But he perks back up.

BARRY: But I’m down with the struggle, man! Fightin’ the man!

CRONY: BRING DOWN THE MAANNNN!!

MLK: The man? What?

BARRY: Time to make our voices heard! Let’s break some*bleep*.  Biggie lives mothafu*bleep*

CRONY: BIGGIE SMALLLSSS!

MLK:  No, no, now stop. Listen I appreciate your enthusiasm, but rioting and looting, now that doesn’t help none.  There are more productive ways for you to serve your community here in Missouri.

Barry breaks character for a moment.

BARRY: Oh, I’m from Colorado.

CRONY:  COLORADO.

Barry cuts him off, overlapping dialogue here.

BARRY: No, no, stop it, stop it.

CRONY: Aww…

MLK: Wait, you’re from Colorado? Why in the world would you come down here?

Barry gets heartfelt. Maybe some sad music begins playing.

BARRY: Listen, I know that I’m white.  I’ve been privileged my whole life. I’m as disgusted with it as you are.  But there’s nothing I can do about that. But what I can do… and all I’ve ever wanted to do… was to link arms with you people.

Quick cut to MLK whispering as Barry continues his monologue.

MLK: He just say you people?

ADVISOR:  Yes, he did.

Barry continues.

BARRY:  …to join my fellow brothers in humanity, to help end injustice in this world, to create awareness and bring people together… above all else, to break *bleep*

MLK: Now I was with you until you said...

He’s cut off by the crony.

CRONY: BREAK SOME *BLEEEEEP*

BARRY:  Yeeeeah, let’s burn this mother down!\

Overlapping dialogue here as we close. Sounds of chaos as if the rioting is escalating.

MLK: No, now stop that. Everybody stop that.

Meanwhile we hear overlapping dialogue from the voices.

BARRY: Yeah, turn over that car!  Let’s loot this store.  I’ve got to get back to Colorado by tomorrow.

CRONY: Turnin’ over cop caaaars!  Etc.

MLK sighs.

MLK:  This was not my dream…. Like…. At all.
