New York Mayor Bill de Blasio publicly endorsed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton Saturday night during the annual Inner Circle Show (a gathering where journalists get to poke fun at politicians). This in and of itself is not surprising.
What is a bit surprising is that in his excuse to audience members for running late to the event, de Blasio said he was running on "CP time." For reference, that means "Colored People's Time"
The relevant segment begins around the 8:00 minute mark.
"I just have to say: thanks for the endorsement, Bill. Took ya long enough," Clinton quipped.
To which de Blasio replied, "Sorry, Hillary ... I was running on CP time."
The crowd went silent and Clinton feigned a look of disapproval (probably part of the "act") before she clarified: "Cautious Politician Time ...I’ve been there."
De Blasio made his "joke" while flanked by an African American theater actor from the popular Broadway musical, Hamilton.
