A Washington Post article about the Koch brothers gift of $25 million to the United Negro College Fund omitted a key fact, and suggested the donation was done for publicity's sake. The article, published Friday after news of the donation broke, mentioned the efforts of Senate Democrats to vilify the industrialist billionaires and noted that the announcement of the gift was a departure for the way the Kochs normally operate:
Such a highly-publicized gift is unusual for Charles Koch. His foundation routinely gives away lots of money but typically with little fanfare.
What the Post article didn't point out, though, is that the gift is actually not that unusual for the Koch foundation at all, as it isn't the first time it has donated to UNCF-- a fact the AP article posted earlier in the day pointed out:
Koch Industries has a history of supporting UNCF dating to 2005, when it acquired the company Georgia-Pacific. Georgia-Pacific supported UNCF going back four decades. Since 1995, Georgia-Pacific and Koch have donated more than $1.5 million to UNCF, according to Koch.
