United Airlines will not be going to court for forcibly dragging a passenger from his seat, since Dr. David Dao has now settled his suit against the notorious airline in what his attorneys called an "amicable" agreement.
In a statement released Thursday, one of Dao's lawyers, Thomas Demetrio, said United should be "applauded" for owning up and taking responsibility.
“[United CEO] Mr. [Oscar] Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has,” wrote Demetrio. “In addition, United has taken full responsibility for what happened on Flight 3411, without attempting to blame others, including the City of Chicago. For this acceptance of corporate accountability, United is to be applauded.”
Demetrio expounded upon the idea that Dao represents literally millions of abused passengers helplessly navigating through the cold monopoly of airline trave.
“Dr. Dao has become the unintended champion for the adoption of changes which will certainly help improve the lives of literally millions of travelers,” Demetrio said. “I sincerely hope that all other airlines make similar changes and follow United’s lead in helping to improve the passenger flying experience with an emphasis on empathy, patience, respect and dignity.”
