In the White House press briefing on Thursday, Press Secretary Josh Earnest made a blunder, or perhaps a Freudian slip, when he mixed up Cubans and Puerto Ricans while giving an answer to a reporter:
"We believe that should be changed. Because it would both improve the financial standing of the Puerto Rican government, but it would also improve the economic outlook for the Cuban people, I'm sorry the Puerto Rican people, but also for the broader economy in Puerto Rico."
Whether it's because he's had Cuba on his mind, and he thinks Puerto Rico and Cuba are basically the same ethnically speaking, or because he's been talking about islands a lot lately in planning where to go when the disastrous Obama administration ends, this is certain: if this were a Republican White House this would be getting endless coverage on MSNBC and from liberal websites right now about how racist Republicans can't distinguish among different ethnicities.
But because Earnest is a Democrat he's immune from such criticism. Just a reminder of how it works here in the United States of Cuba Rico.
