The "Day Without a Woman" protest set for March 8 will be joined by Hollywood talent agency UTA, thus driving home the point that only privileged, overpaid white women have the means to boycott work
“We consider it vital for UTA to be a part of the global dialogue about gender equity and underscore its importance,” UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer said in a statement. “Women play a critical role in the workforce and are essential members of the UTA family, and we fully support this event and encourage women across the agency to mark the day.”
A speaking engagement will be held at an offsite location where female employees are reportedly encouraged to attend, and if they do not wish to, they shall be flogged. Speakers will include Planned Parenthood's Katie Danziger and Cathy Shulman of Women in Film.
“On the heels of our United Voices rally, it was a very natural decision to stand up for, and with, our own female employees,” Suzette Ramirez-Carr, UTA’s Global Head of Human Resources, said in a statement. “Every woman will have the freedom to spend the day as she sees fit–with the full support of her male colleagues.”
UTA has taken an active roll in combating Trump, previously canceling an Oscar party in favor of holding a pro-refugee rally. Interestingly, they did not invite refugees to attend the Oscars with them.
"This is a moment that demands our generosity, awareness and restlessness," Zimmer wrote of the rally. "Our world is a better place for the free exchange of artists, ideas and creative expression. If our nation ceases to be the place where artists the world over can come to express themselves freely, then we cease, in my opinion, to be America."
