German-based skincare company Nivea was forced to pull an ad after leftists whined it was racist.
The ad was for a new “invisible” deodorant that promised not to stain clothing, but the slogan was, “White is purity.” According to CNN Money, the ad was published on Nivea’s Middle East Facebook page and it was quickly sniped as insensitive:
"We are deeply sorry to anyone who may take offense to this specific post,” the company said in a statement. “After realizing that the post is misleading, it was immediately withdrawn” due to “concerns about ethnic discrimination.”
It is also noted that many white supremacists on social media jumped at the chance to share the image.
In 2011, Nivea was apologizing, as well, when the company was accused of racism for an ad featuring a clean-shaven black man attempting to throw away a mask with a beard and afro. The slogan was, “Re-civilize yourself.” However, they had the same ad featuring a white guy:
