Secret Jeb! Docs Take Aim at Rubio

Leaked documents lay out Bush strategy

A leak of secret documents from the Jeb Bush campaign to Newsweek is giving the world a bit more insight into just how much time and effort Bush is willing to put into attacking Marco Rubio. Rubio was an obvious target of Bush during the CNBC debate, although given how one high-profile exchange ended, that may have played badly for Bush.

Now documents obtained and released by Newsweek lay out much of Bush's plan, from how much he will spend on advertising in key states to what internal polling numbers are. Bush spent $5.6 million on ads across New Hampshire in the weeks leading up to the February 9th primary. Iowa will see an ad buying spree in the $1.4 million range and South Carolina has a budget of $2.7 million, according to the documents.

When it comes to Rubio, Bush's campaign will try to portray the Florida Senator and former Bush protege as a risky choice. In addition to portraying Rubio as having no experience or accomplishments with which to run against Hillary Clinton, Bush also takes aim at Rubio's misuse of state party credit cards and some questionable connections Rubio has.

Bush's internal polling shows why he is taking such an interest in Rubio: the younger Floridian is right behind the former governor when it comes to support from Republican voters.
