Hillary Clinton claims she is trying to run an open and inclusive campaign, but Republicans can be forgiven for feeling unwelcome. At a big campaign rally on Roosevelt Island in New York on Saturday, several Republican staffers who showed up wearing “Stop Hillary” t-shirts were nearly kicked out of the event, despite the fact that they had paid for general admission tickets.
The Republican shirts depicted an image of a red stop sign with the words “Stop Hillary” emblazoned over it. Security staff initially told them they would have to leave, but readmitted them once they agreed to turn their shirts inside out.
One of the Republican staffers, Raffi Williams, who serves as the deputy press secretary for the Republican National Committee in DC, tweeted “Followed around by @HillaryClinton staffers at rally after they tried to kick me out guess they are afraid of the truth.”
The same event featured a speech from Marlon Marshall, Clinton’s director of political engagement. As the Daily Caller reports, Marshall is infamous in political circles for writing “F U Republicans. Mafia till I die,” in an email to “The Mook Mafia email listserve, a private pro-Clinton group. The emails were leaked, but they didn't stop Marshall from finding a position with the Clinton campaign.
“I’m not running for some Americans, but for all Americans,” Clinton said in her speech on Saturday. The Republican staffers who were nearly ousted from her event might disagree.
