O'Reilly: Ft. Hood Shooting Caused by Freedom

"Random violence will always be with us"

On Wednesday's "Talking Points Memo," Bill O'Reilly discussed the latest Fort Hood shooting.

O'Reilly said that while, "some irresponsible pundits will blame this on guns... what this is really about is freedom."

"Here in the US we have freedom of movement, freedom to protect ourselves with firearms, and the freedom to act crazy without much accountability," he continued.

America's heritage of freedom makes it difficult to get the mentally ill hospitalized, O'Reilly argued, contrasting the United States with China, which he said can control violence, because they "do not have real freedom."

In China people live under government supervision, he said. "If you are a loon in China, believe me, you will be removed from society, and the ACLU will not be able to help you."

"A portion of any population is going to do violent things, and there is nothing on Earth that we can do to stop those people. Nothing, that is, except give up our freedom."

"Random violence will always be with us," he concluded.
