Oh, Boy: Malaysia Airlines' Twitter Gaffe

Public relations fail of epic proportions

On Thursday, Malaysia Airlines offered a year-end promotion to its Twitter followers, but had to quickly delete it after some found the wording questionable.

The tweet read:

Want to go somewhere, but don't know where?

Many users saw this as a very poor choice of words, seeing as the airline still can't find Flight 370 -- the plane that was downed over the Indian Ocean earlier this year.

According to a New York Times article, Malyasia Airlines hoped the campaign would "inspire travelers to explore deals offered." The NYT also pointed out a similar gaffe in September, when the airline asked passengers to submit lists of things they'd like to do before they die, in the company's "My Ultimate Bucket List" campaign.

The company is utilizing these, and other, social media campaigns as a way to attract customers in order to compensate for the company's massive financial losses since the disappearance of Flight 370, as well as Flight 17, which was shot down in July while in flight over Ukraine.
